Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I'm interested, what now?
A: Just come along to a class - bring a friend or two if you are bit nervous!

Q: What do I need to bring or wear?
A: Enthusiasm, comfortable clothing (such as jogging bottoms & t-shirt) & a water bottle to keep you hydrated. All training is barefoot. Jewellery, watches, earrings etc should be removed.

Q: Do I need to be fit?
A: NO! The Karate training will get you into shape. The keypoint here is that you will go at your own level and build up your fitness.

Q: Will I get hurt?
A: Although Karate can be quite phsyical, our training is on a very controlled, no-contact/light-contact basis and injuries are very rare.

Q: What do you teach my child?
A: Karate training includes working on discipline, self control, self respect & respect for others. The emphasis of Karate itself is on defence NOT offence!

Q: My child is shy and/or gets bullied - will they learn to protect themselves?
A: Whilst we don't teach children to be aggresive, Karate training helps to devolop a child's confidence & self esteem.

Q: Am I too old?
A: Whether you are 6 or 60, you will benefit from Karate training. It will improve your fitness, health, flexibility, strength & reduce stress levels. It is very well known that flexibillity training improves circulation to joints and therefore can actually improve muscular or arthritic conditions! For the mature student we realise that flexibility is less than the younger ones, but this is taken into consideration. Any medical conditions regarding diabetes, asthma, epilepsy have to be reported to us, but these conditions do not stop you from practising karate.

Q: Is Karate suitable for girls & women?
A: Absolutely, Karate is the ultimate in unarmed self-defence but strength and size are not important. It can be performed well with whatever strength you have, by relying on speed, technique & co-ordination therefore men, women & children can train together!

Q: How much does it cost?
A: The first lesson is totally free! If you choose to continue taking part in our classes, we will charge a monthly fee of £15 per adult & £10 per child. There is also a charge of £15 per year insurance.

Q: Is Rokra registered with any national Karate organisations?
A: Rokra is registered through UKASKO - The United Kingdom All Styles Karate Organization.

Q: What if I have any more questions?
A: Feel free to email us with any questions you may have. Proceed to Contact Us to discover different ways of contacting us!
